The visit to Big Carms presented a nostalgic, homely restaurant with the feel of a welcoming local diner. The interior created a relaxed and familiar impression, supported by daytime television, a friendly dog resting quietly in the corner, and a general atmosphere that felt warm and cared for. Food quality was one of the strongest parts of the experience. While the menu was relatively small, the available items were well prepared, enjoyable, and offered at excellent value. The toasted sandwich that we tried was made with pickles, lettuce, onions, Alaska pollock, and tartar sauce, was prepared to a high standard, while the cherry Italian gelato was particularly well received. The coffee also had a pleasant caramel note and reached a comfortable drinking temperature after a short wait. Service was friendly and charming, although the overall flow was limited by one staff member handling both orders and cooking. This created a queue, with the visit taking around twelve minutes from joining the line to receiving food. Inviting guests to sit while food is prepared, or adding extra staff during busier periods, would help improve efficiency and professionalism. With a Spotlight Score of 6.7 and a Fair rating, Big Carms earned a respectable result. The score reflects a venue with strong food quality, excellent value, and clear local charm, while also recognising that improved service flow would make the overall dining experience feel much smoother.
